As an umbrella organisation, the Bundesverband Freie Darstellende Künste (BFDK, Federal Association for the Independent Performing Arts) represents the interests of 16 state associations and seven associated associations. It is represented by its executive committee. Business operations lie with the office in Berlin. The BFDK is involved with numerous associations and committees.

The members of the BFDK are the heart of the association. They maintain direct contact to stakeholders in the independent performing arts all over Germany; they know what matters to those people and communicate their concerns to the BFDK.
